WPT DUBLIN |
Dave Shallow Wins WPT Dublin In 2006, a former law student called Dave Shallow burst onto the UK poker scene with a series of impressive results playing online. Rumour has it that he blew his impressive bankroll no sooner had he built it and we have not seen him on the tournament poker scene for a long while. On Day Two of WPT Ireland there was a tweet stating that Dave Shallow had 470,000 chips. Was Dave Shallow back? When he finally bagged up 951,000 chips at the end of that special day people started to murmur that maybe he was. There were a trail of top quality UK pros tailing Shallow on Day Two that included Steve Watts, Shaun Conning, Sam MacDonald, Dave Nicholson and Chaz Chattha. Also included in the pack was the only ever World Amateur and Professional snooker champion Ken Doherty. Day Three was a long drawn out affair. The plan was to trim the field from 36 players to a final table of 6 and in the end the players had to endure a 14-hr marathon session. We lost Doherty, MacDonald and Nicholson early doors and the day ended with an amazing hand. Shallow (JJ), Conning (QQ) and French Pro Steven Moreau (AA) all got it in pre flop and Shallow hit a jack on the turn to send both players spinning out of the competition. That final hand gave Shallow 6 million chips and the other four remaining competitors only had 4 million between them. It took Shallow just under 90-minutes to finally take down the title and first prize of €222,280. Is he back for good? We don’t think so because his other half has a bun in the oven!
